Earlier this week, the world celebrated World No Tobacco Day. It was celebrated by healthcare professionals, doctors, patients and families that have been effected by the deaths of tobacco smoke. The hashtag #WorldNoTobaccoDay circulated around the web, with people remembering loved ones lost by smoking tobacco. It’s not too late for you if you smoke tobacco. Here are some reasons to quit cold turkey:
1.) You’ll live longer
You’ve probably heard this one before, but it’s true. People who smoke live approximately 13-15 years less than their non-smoking counterparts. If you quit smoking now you could live so much longer than you are right now. Also, once you quit smoking your body will start to repair itself and become healthier.
2.) You’ll help your friends and family
You probably know already that second hand smoke kills. This means if you smoke around friends or family they are at just as much risk in developing a chronic lung disease. If you quit now you will be saving your peers and yourself from getting sick by quitting now.
3.) You will save money immediately
Cigarettes don’t come cheap. Depending on how much you smoke per day, you could be spending almost $10 a day on cigarettes. The average smoker spends $2200 a year on cigarettes. If you stop smoking you will be able to save thousands of dollars a year.
4.) You will have more opportunities
More and more people are quitting smoking, which means it’s becoming more of a social taboo in this day and age. Most people don’t want to be around someone who smokes cigarettes. As well as this, some store owners can deny you entry into their store, and some landlords can refuse to rent to you. All in all, smoking is all around frowned upon.
5.) Tobacco makes you less able to think
In addition to, all the cancers that are tied to smoking tobacco, smoking can make your mind foggy. This means it can make you not as able to think, or remember things. One of the worst feelings is forgetting something or feeling tired all the time. If you stop smoking this feeling can stop and your mind won’t always be up in smoke.
